Winnipeg police have charged two men after a man escaped from a moving vehicle during an attempted shoe sale on Tuesday.
A concerned citizen reported seeing a man jump from a moving car at around 5 p.m. which then drove away. Police later learned the victim, a man in his 40s, had arranged to sell high-end shoes to an acquaintance. Upon entering the buyer’s vehicle, he was ambushed at gunpoint by a second man hiding in the backseat.
The suspects sped off with the victim trapped inside, but he managed to escape by jumping from the vehicle, suffering minor injuries. The shoes fell out during his escape.
With help from Saskatchewan RCMP, the suspects were apprehended hours later near Whitewood, Saskatchewan. On January 2, they were transferred to Winnipeg police custody.
Muhammad Ehan Zawar and Syed Maaz Ali, both 20 and from Saskatoon, face charges of armed robbery and forcible confinement. They remain in custody.
