Winnipeg police have arrested three suspects linked to a series of package thefts in the Transcona area, following an investigation dubbed Project Thrifties.
Police launched the operation in late 2024 after receiving multiple reports from concerned residents about a rise in stolen deliveries. Investigators identified a female suspect and multiple targeted properties.
Between August and December 2024, police say the suspect stole packages from at least seven homes across Transcona, with stolen goods ranging in value from $10 to $200. Further investigation led to two additional suspects involved in porch piracy and retail theft.
On January 2, 2025, officers arrested Melissa Marie Nolette, 35, who is now facing multiple theft-related charges and remains in custody.
Kevin Jay Worme, 47, was also arrested and detained on theft charges and an outstanding warrant. A 35-year-old woman was charged with theft and released on an undertaking.
As part of the investigation, police also shut down a residence in the 300 block of Larche Crescent, which had been flagged by the community as a problem property linked to the thefts.
Authorities believe there may be more victims and are urging anyone affected to report incidents through the police non-emergency line or online.
To prevent future package thefts, police recommend using secure delivery options, requesting signature confirmation, and signing up for delivery alerts.
