Two people were taken to hospital Thursday following two separate residential fires in the city.
The first call came in at 5:55 a.m. for reports of a fire in a two-and-a-half-storey residence in the 800 block of Winnipeg Avenue.
One person was found to be trapped on an upper floor. Firefighters rescued the individual using ladders and they were transported to hospital in stable condition.
No other injuries were reported. Firefighters also located and rescued two cats from the residence.
Just after 6 a.m., firefighters were called to a two-storey townhouse blaze in the 100 block of Parr Street.
Crews arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from one of the units. Firefighters worked to knock down the flames so they could enter and fight the fire from inside.
All occupants in the impacted unit self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. One of them was injured jumping from a second-floor window. They were assessed by paramedics and transported to hospital in unstable condition. No other injuries were reported.
Both fires remain under investigation and no damage estimates are available.
