A collision between a school bus and a pickup truck in the RM of Lorne sent several students to hospital on Wednesday.

Pembina Valley RCMP responded to the crash at around 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of Road 28 North and Road 66 West, where they found the school bus overturned in a ditch alongside the pickup truck.

According to police, the pickup truck, driven by a 17-year-old boy, was travelling south on Road 66 West when it struck the rear driver’s side of the eastbound school bus. The impact caused the bus to tip onto its passenger side.

All 14 children on board, ranging from kindergarten to Grade 11, sustained minor injuries. They were taken to hospital as a precaution, with some later transported to Winnipeg for further assessment. The driver of the pickup truck was also treated for minor injuries and has since been released.

RCMP stated that charges under the Highway Traffic Act are pending for the pickup truck driver. The investigation is ongoing.
