Canadian Blood Services is putting out the call for urgent blood donations in Winnipeg.

The organization says the latest cold snap and winter storms across the country resulted in the cancellation of many appointments, including locally.

“During storms, many people offer acts of kindness, such as helping their neighbours clear snow, shovelling out cars or providing warm spaces for those in need,” CBS said in a release. “Donating blood is another way people can give back to their community.”

Approximately 450 new donors are needed daily across Canada to sustain the national blood supply.

Winnipeg residents can book an appointment for the donation centre located at 777 William Avenue. Appointments can be made online, using the GiveBlood app or by calling 1-888-2-DONATE (1-888-236-6283).
