WINNIPEG — The Manitoba government is inviting residents to a town hall on May 6 to help shape the design of the new Victoria Hospital emergency department.
The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the South Winnipeg Community Centre. It wasn’t immediately clear which of the two site locations the meeting will be held — Waverley Heights or Fort Richmond.
“For too long, families in south Winnipeg have gone without emergency care in their community after the previous government closed the Victoria ED,” said Health Minister Uzoma Asagwara.
“We’re taking the next step in our commitment to build a new ED at the Vic, bringing the front lines and community into the planning process. I encourage folks to come out to the town hall and contribute to the future of urgent care in your community.”
Asagwara noted the government will also consult front-line staff on April 15 at Victoria Hospital to understand their priorities for a new ED in the facility.
Planning is underway, with construction tenders expected later this year.
