Winnipeg police arrested a 39-year-old man late Wednesday after he breached the conditions of his court-ordered release by entering a restricted area near a preschool and playground.

The incident occurred around 10 p.m., when Manitoba Justice’s electronic monitoring program alerted police that the man, who was wearing a GPS ankle bracelet, had entered a prohibited zone. Officers located him walking on Higgins Avenue near Sutherland Avenue and took him into custody just before 11 p.m.

A search uncovered a quantity of ammunition and a zip gun, an improvised firearm. The man faces several weapons-related charges and remains in custody.
