The Manitoba government has announced plans to build a new, state-of-the-art CancerCare Manitoba headquarters.

The new facility will be built at the Health Sciences Centre’s Bannatyne campus in Winnipeg.

“The new headquarters will deliver cutting-edge care, the best quality service, the newest techniques all in a space with more room, more light and more comfort for Manitobans living with cancer,” Premier Wab Kinew said.

Originally announced in 2015 and cancelled in 2017 by the previous government, the project is included in Budget 2025.

The current CancerCare building opened in 2003 and was at capacity from day one, according to the province. Officials say the new headquarters will better support patients and provide modern infrastructure for clinical trials and coordinated care.

“With all the dramatic advances in cancer treatments, Manitoba needs a facility that has the space and resources to deliver the most effective care to our cancer patients,” said Dr. Dhali Dhaliwal, former CEO of CancerCare Manitoba.
