Heavy fog is being blamed for a train collision involving two semi-trucks Wednesday morning on Highway 23 in the RM of DeSalaberry.
Manitoba RCMP say the crash happened at around 7:28 a.m. near Road 18 East. A westbound semi attempted to stop at the rail crossing but swerved into a ditch to avoid hitting the train. The 57-year-old driver from the RM of Montcalm was not injured.
Moments later, another westbound gravel truck struck the rear of the train and caught fire. The 53-year-old Winnipeg man driving was taken to hospital as a precaution.
The train continued on its route, and no one aboard was hurt.
Highway 23 remained closed most of the afternoon due to roadway damage and debris. Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure crews are making repairs.
St. Pierre-Jolys RCMP and CP Police are investigating.
