PUB Approves Multi-Year Rate Increases for Centra Gas

The Public Utilities Board (PUB) has approved multi-year rate increases for Centra Gas Manitoba Inc. following its 2024/25 general rate application.

The decision maintains the current 4.5 percent interim increase in place since November 2024 and adds 4.5 percent on November 1, 2025, and 4.0 percent on November 1, 2026.

The increases apply only to distribution costs, not the price of natural gas, so actual bill impacts are expected to be lower than the percentage increases. Centra plans to provide detailed bill impact information later this year.

The PUB noted that Centra had incurred significant losses in recent years, including $34 million in 2023/24, due largely to rising operating costs without adequate revenue. The multi-year approval aims to restore Centra’s financial stability while safeguarding service for Manitobans.

The PUB also directed Centra to develop a strategic business plan to ensure the utility’s long-term viability.
