WINNIPEG — The first phase of the new emergency department at St. Boniface Hospital is now open to patients.
The new facility offers expanded space, barrier-free access, and features including a central resuscitation area, private exam rooms, a dedicated mental health unit, new diagnostic imaging equipment, and a 10-bay ambulance entrance. An expanded waiting room, improved parking, and outdoor garden space are also part of the redesign.
“This is a major milestone in St. Boniface Hospital’s history and marks a new chapter in our shared journey to enhance patient care and improve the patient and staff experience,” said
Nicole Aminot, president and CEO of St. Boniface Hospital. “The move into this beautiful and highly functional new space is a proud moment for us.”
The St. Boniface Hospital Foundation contributed $10 million to the project, supported by donors including the Bergen family.
Hospital officials noted that nurse vacancy rates in the emergency department have dropped significantly over the past year, positioning the hospital to meet increased demand.
While patients will begin receiving care in the new space immediately, renovations continue on the existing emergency department, with the full project expected to be completed in 2026.
