The federal government is investing more than $2.3 million in New Media Manitoba to help grow the province’s interactive digital media industry and expand the use of artificial intelligence.

The funding, announced on Wednesday in Winnipeg, will enhance NMM’s StudioLab xR facility with new AI capabilities and support small and medium-sized businesses in adopting AI technology.

The investment will also fund workforce training programs aimed at preparing Manitobans for jobs in an AI-driven economy.

“By accelerating AI adoption in interactive digital media, we are creating a foundation for innovation that extends across Manitoba’s entire economy,” said NMM executive director Louie Ghiz.

“This investment strengthens not only our sector but also the province’s capacity to lead in applying AI across industries such as bioscience, construction, and film and television production.”

Officials say the initiative will help local companies develop new digital products, create jobs, and strengthen Manitoba’s position in Canada’s fast-growing digital economy.
