The Manitoba government will plant trees along the Perimeter Highway to reduce noise for residents living in River Park South.

Seine River MLA Billie Cross made the announcement late Friday.

“People in River Park South have shared their concerns about highway noise with me, and we’re delivering a solution that’s going to greatly reduce that noise,” said Cross.

“Residents will see the first trees have been planted, which are not only going to dampen sound, but also add to our beautiful tree canopy.”

The province says 20 trees are being planted this week, and additional trees will be planted next year to complete the sound barrier, which will run along the Perimeter Highway.
