Operation Red Nose Winnipeg has launched its 30th annual safety campaign ahead of the busy holiday season.
The program provides free, safe rides home (donations are encouraged) to holiday revellers on select nights through November and December.
Last year, 1,108 safe rides were provided and organizers hope to increase that number this year. The service begins November 28 and will run Friday and Saturday nights through the end of December, with an additional night on New Year’s Eve. Rides are free and include transportation for both passengers and their vehicles.
“Every ride we give is one less impaired driver on the road,” said Elisha Dacey, volunteer media liaison with Winnipeg Kids Foundation, which is the charitable beneficiary for Operation Red Nose.
Those in need of a safe ride home in Winnipeg can call (204) 947-NOSE (6673) between 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. A volunteer drive team, consisting of three individuals, will be dispatched to the pick-up location. Two of the drive team members will drive you and your guests home in your vehicle while the third team member follows in the team escort vehicle.
Organizers are also seeking additional sponsors and donation-matching partners.
“If you’re a business leader, consider supporting this life-saving initiative,” Dacey added.

In 2025, other participating Manitoba communities include Flin Flon, Gimli, Portage la Prairie, La Broquerie/Steinbach, Saint-Malo and The Pas.
