Manitoba Public Insurance has introduced a new online licence lookup tool, giving employers, organizations, and Manitobans a faster way to verify a driver’s licence without visiting a service centre.
Launched on Monday, the tool lets users enter a Manitoba driver’s licence number to confirm whether a licence is valid and view its class and restrictions. No personal information is displayed, and searches can only be made by licence number — not by name.
MPI says the system replaces the slower process of obtaining driver in-force letters, helping businesses ensure employees or volunteers are properly licensed. The Crown corporation also notes the tool supports road safety, as suspended drivers are statistically more likely to be involved in fatal crashes.
Licence lookup can be used by employers, non-profit agencies, other jurisdictions with licence-exchange agreements, or anyone lending a vehicle who wants to confirm a licence is valid.
