The Manitoba government will rename the Provincial Road 313 bridge over the Winnipeg River in Lac du Bonnet as the Susan and Richard Nowell Memorial Bridge.
Premier Wab Kinew says the dedication honours the couple’s generosity and community spirit. Susan and Richard Nowell were killed during this year’s devastating wildfire season, which burned thousands of hectares, forced major evacuations, and destroyed homes across the province.
“Susan and Richard Nowell were the kind of neighbours who make Manitoba the place we’re proud to call home,” Kinew said in a statement.
“Their loss is felt deeply, but their legacy will endure in Lac du Bonnet and across our province.”
The province will work with the family and local leaders on the upcoming dedication and further community recognition.
