New CT X-ray screening technology is now in operation at Winnipeg’s James Richardson International Airport.
The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) announced on Wednesday that it’s the first time the system has been used at YWG.
The new machine is now in service on line 4 of the domestic/international checkpoint. Passengers using a CT-equipped line no longer need to remove permitted liquids under 100 mL, aerosols, gels, medical devices, or large electronics — including laptops — from their carry-on bags.
CATSA says the upgrade is part of a multi-year national rollout aimed at modernizing screening and improving both security and passenger convenience. An interactive map showing which Canadian airports and checkpoints feature CT technology is available on CATSA’s website.
“This innovation not only improves efficiency at security checkpoints but also reflects our commitment to working with partners like CATSA to bring world-class solutions to YWG,” said Nick Hays, president and CEO of Winnipeg Airports Authority.
CATSA says additional screening lines will eventually transition to the new system at YWG.
