Winnipeg police have begun rolling out a new electronic ticketing system, marking the first phase of a broader shift to digital traffic enforcement.
The e-ticket system, built on the “Smart Squad” platform introduced through the connected officer program in 2024, will allow officers to issue clear, printed offence notices at the roadside. Select traffic enforcement vehicles will begin using the system immediately, with a full service-wide rollout planned for next year.
Police say the digital process improves accuracy and record-keeping by eliminating manual entry errors and storing offence details securely. The efficiency gains mean officers will spend less time on paperwork and more time on road safety enforcement.
In a release, the Winnipeg Police Service thanked the public for its cooperation as the transition begins.
