STARS has received a $3-million donation from Manitoba Blue Cross to support air ambulance operations in Manitoba over the next decade.

Tuesday’s donation is the largest gift the organization has received in the province and will secure the naming rights of its Winnipeg Airport base as the STARS Manitoba Blue Cross Winnipeg Base.

STARS says the funding will help sustain critical care missions across Manitoba, where the air ambulance service has completed more than 10,000 responses since establishing a permanent base in 2012.

“This extraordinary investment by Manitoba Blue Cross strengthens the foundation of our operations and enhances our ability to deliver world-class critical care anywhere in Manitoba for years to come,” said Dr. John Froh, STARS president and CEO.

The announcement also included plans to expand the Winnipeg base, with construction expected to be completed in late 2026. The expansion will add a medical simulation lab and additional space for crews and equipment.
