Manitoba RCMP are continuing their investigation after a pickup truck went through the ice on Cedar Lake early Tuesday morning.
Officers with the Grand Rapids detachment were called at around 1:20 a.m. after a truck drove onto the ice near the Manitoba Hydro boat launch, west of the Grand Rapids Generating Station, and broke through approximately 75 metres from shore.
RCMP say the vehicle was occupied by a man and a woman who were unable to escape before the truck sank. Emergency crews, including local EMS, the Grand Rapids Fire Department and Manitoba Hydro, responded immediately and conducted searches using a zodiac boat and a drone, but no heat signatures or occupants were located.
Later Tuesday afternoon, the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team located the submerged pickup truck, though the two occupants were not inside. The underwater search for the two missing people is ongoing.
