A Manitoba man has been sentenced after pleading guilty to smuggling prohibited weapons into Canada, according to the Canada Border Services Agency.
Mark Sobry, 47, of Kelwood, Man., pleaded guilty on October 7, 2025, in Minnedosa Provincial Court to charges under the Customs Act and the Criminal Code related to importing prohibited weapons. On December 16, he received a 20-month conditional sentence, a 10-year weapons prohibition, and was ordered to provide a DNA sample.
The investigation began in the summer of 2024 after CBSA officers intercepted two mail shipments containing prohibited stun guns at international mail centres in Vancouver and Mississauga. A search of Sobry’s property in Kelwood led to the seizure of additional prohibited weapons, including a stun gun and seven throwing stars, as well as 10 non-restricted long rifles, ammunition, and reloading supplies.
Authorities say the seized weapons violated existing court conditions that prohibited him from possessing restricted weapons.
