RCMP say a woman was rescued after being held against her will during an incident that led to vehicle pursuit north of Winnipeg on Tuesday.
Red River North RCMP were alerted shortly after 3 p.m. that a woman was being confined in a black Chrysler 300 last seen travelling north on Henderson Highway in the RM of East St. Paul. Police located the vehicle near a business in Lockport just before 4 p.m., but the driver fled and failed to stop despite a tire deflation device being deployed.
The pursuit continued east on Highway 44 toward Garson before being terminated. More than 25 RCMP officers from 10 detachments, including the emergency response team and police dog services, were involved in the search.
At around 5:45 p.m., the vehicle was located on a farm property along Highway 12 in the RM of Springfield. The suspect was arrested without incident. The 38-year-old female victim was found nearby and treated for minor injuries.
A 49-year-old man has been remanded into custody facing charges including forcible confinement, failing to stop for police, dangerous driving, operating a vehicle while prohibited, uttering threats and assault. Police say the accused will not be identified due to the incident involving intimate partner violence.
The investigation is ongoing.
