The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have announced several coaching changes ahead of the 2026 CFL season, including a new offensive coordinator and a transition from the field to the sidelines for a longtime veteran.
Tommy Condell has been named the club’s offensive coordinator after spending the past two seasons in the same role with the Ottawa Redblacks. Condell brings 15 years of CFL coaching experience with five teams and returns to Winnipeg, where he began his CFL career as special teams coordinator in 1997.
Condell has also coached with Saskatchewan, Hamilton, Toronto and Ottawa, and was part of the Toronto Argonauts’ 2017 Grey Cup championship staff. Most recently in Ottawa, his offences ranked fifth in the league in passing yards per game in 2025 despite injuries at quarterback.
Veteran defensive lineman Jake Thomas will retire from playing and become the Blue Bombers’ defensive line coach, replacing Darrell Patterson, who is retiring. Thomas spent 13 seasons with Winnipeg, appearing in 223 regular-season games and five Grey Cups, and was a key contributor to the club’s championship teams in 2019 and 2021.
The team also confirmed Jason Hogan will return as running backs coach in 2026, a position he previously held from 2022 to 2024.
The coaching changes take effect ahead of Winnipeg’s preparations for the 2026 season.
