A 38-year-old man is facing multiple charges after an erratic driving incident, parking lot collision, and disturbance on Ellice Avenue on Sunday.
Winnipeg police said officers were called to the 1400 block of Ellice Avenue in the afternoon following a disturbance related to a motor vehicle collision in a parking lot.
Police said the man was earlier observed driving a 2013 Dodge Dart erratically near King Edward Street and Ness Avenue at about 4:45 p.m. Shortly afterward, he was involved in a collision in the Ellice parking lot, where he allegedly threatened the 52-year-old driver of the other vehicle. Bystanders witnessed the incident and contacted police.
When officers arrived, the suspect was allegedly assaulting a 23-year-old security guard who had intervened. With assistance from additional officers and the security guard, police took the man into custody. The officer was assaulted during the arrest and suffered minor injuries that did not require medical attention. The security guard wasn’t injured.
Bobby Roger Coutu has been charged with numerous offences, as well as failing to comply with a release order.
Coutu remains in custody.
