The Assiniboine Park Conservancy is inviting the public to its We Are Winter celebration this weekend, offering a range of free, family-friendly outdoor activities.
Visitors can enjoy skating on the duck pond, cross-country skiing on groomed trails, tobogganing, cornhole, box hockey, and warming up by outdoor bonfires. Ice cycles from Spark Rentals will be available on the duck pond on Saturday and Sunday.
Winter equipment rentals, including kick sleds, toboggans, hockey and figure skates, snowshoes, and more, will be offered by the Winnipeg Trails Association on a first-come, first-served basis. The association will also host beginner-friendly cross-country skiing and skating lessons, with pre-registration encouraged.
Guided 45-minute snowshoe tours will introduce visitors to the park’s winter landscape, with a limited number of snowshoes available to borrow. Live music from DJ GeNie will take place Saturday and Sunday.
Organizers say the event is designed to bring the community together to embrace the outdoors and celebrate winter at one of Winnipeg’s most popular parks.
Events will run Friday from 4-8 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
