Operation Red Nose helped thousands of Manitobans get home safely during the 2025 holiday season, marking 30 years of the volunteer-run designated driver program in the province.
The free service operates during the holidays to prevent impaired driving. When called, teams of three volunteers pick up participants and drive them home in their own vehicles.
During the 2025 season, 1,347 volunteers provided 1,516 safe rides across seven Manitoba communities. The program also raised more than $30,000 for youth organizations throughout the province.
“This was a year with some special challenges due to the withdrawal of legacy supporting organizations and volunteers in a few communities,” said Ron Janzen, president and CEO of Safety Services Manitoba.
“But communities with new volunteers and new organizations rose to the challenge. We have enjoyed a successful holiday season for the program.”
