Manitoba RCMP say 15 people were sent to hospital on Tuesday after a school bus rolled north of Swan River.
Mounties were called at around 8:35 a.m. and responded to the crash on Highway 10, about 13 kilometres south of Mafeking.
According to police, the bus was travelling south when the driver attempted to pass another bus and lost control. The bus went off the highway, rolled and then came to a stop when it was right-side up. Road conditions were believed to be slippery at the time of the incident.
Fifteen people, including the driver, were transported to hospital in Swan River for assessment and treatment of their injuries. Four patients — three youth and one adult — were then transported by air to Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg for further care.
“Swan Valley School Division immediately deployed three counsellors and our division’s Knowledge Keeper to the Health Centre to provide emotional support to students and families,” the division said in a statement Tuesday.
“We sincerely thank the first responders for their swift action and compassion during this difficult time.”
RCMP continue to investigate the crash.
