Manitoba First Nations Police Service officers across all 12 detachments are now equipped with body-worn cameras.
The rollout began in 2025 and was carried out in phases, with cameras now in use by officers throughout the service, police said on Tuesday. The technology is intended to improve transparency, accountability and officer safety by providing an objective record of interactions with the public.
“Body-worn cameras are an important tool that will help us continue building strong, positive relationships with the communities we serve,” said MFNPS Chief Jason Colon.
The service says officers have received training to ensure the cameras are used responsibly and in accordance with best practices and professional standards.
The MFNP joins the Manitoba RCMP in sporting body-worn cameras, who completed the technological rollout last year. The Winnipeg Police Service doesn’t currently have a body-camera program for officers.
