A Manitoba delegation is in Mexico this week as part of a federal trade mission aimed at expanding market access and strengthening international partnerships.
The mission, led by federal Internal Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc, is focused on agriculture and food, advanced manufacturing, clean technology, information and communication technology, and creative industries.
Business, Mining, Trade and Job Creation Minister Jamie Moses says Manitoba is looking to reduce reliance on the United States and find new markets as tariffs continue to raise costs for families and businesses.
While in Mexico, the Manitoba delegation is expected to take part in more than 100 business-to-business meetings with Mexican companies and investors. The group will also attend events with business councils, trade organizations, diplomats and government officials, and meet with Cameron MacKay, Canada’s ambassador to Mexico.
The Manitoba delegation includes Grand Chief Kyra Wilson of the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs and Grand Chief Jerry Daniels of the Southern Chiefs’ Organization, along with representatives from Manitoba-based and national organizations in agriculture, manufacturing, technology and trade.
Delegates will spend several days in Mexico City before travelling to Guadalajara and Monterrey to strengthen relationships in sectors including agriculture, manufacturing, aerospace, life sciences and technology.
