The Health Sciences Centre Foundation has announced $200,000 in new philanthropic support for its Operation Excellence campaign, aimed at reducing surgical wait times and expanding access to advanced surgical care in Manitoba.
The funding includes a $100,000 contribution from global IT and business consulting firm CGI, matched by Manitoba business leader Chuck Loewen.
Operation Excellence is a $108 million initiative designed to enhance diagnostic and surgical capacity at Health Sciences Centre. The campaign supports expanded operating room capacity, investment in leading-edge surgical technologies and upgrades to patient-flow systems to improve outcomes and address surgical backlogs.
“This contribution will help accelerate meaningful improvements in surgical care and bring us closer to eliminating surgical waitlists for Manitobans,” said Jonathon Lyon, president and CEO of the HSC Foundation, in a release.
Recent investments through the campaign include the purchase of Manitoba’s first da Vinci Xi surgical robot, which officials say has helped reduce hospital stays, improve patient outcomes and strengthen recruitment and retention of specialized surgical staff.
