Two people are facing charges after a fight involving about 15 people at a Main Street bar led to two Winnipeg police officers being assaulted.

Police responded to the 1100 block of Main Street at around 10:55 p.m. on Wednesday. When they arrived, two men were still actively fighting.

One of the men was detained under the intoxicated persons detention act, while the other was released without charges.

Police say a 27-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man were arrested for interfering as officers attempted to break up the fight. The woman allegedly kicked one officer and spat at another, while the man tried to prevent officers from detaining one of the men involved.

The woman has been charged with two counts of assaulting a peace officer and one count of resisting a peace officer. The man is charged with obstructing justice. Both were released on court orders.

Police are reminding the public that interfering with officers during a lawful arrest can result in criminal charges.
