University of Manitoba (UMANITOBA.CA)
A 17-year-old suspect is in custody following a stabbing that left a man injured at the University of Manitoba Thursday evening.
Winnipeg say the incident occurred at around 7:30 p.m. at the Active Living Centre on University Crescent. A 32-year-old man was allegedly attacked without warning when the teen took out a knife and stabbed him before fleeing the scene.
Bystanders provided first aid until paramedics arrived. The victim was taken to hospital in unstable condition but has since been upgraded to stable.
Officers were directed by university security to a Winnipeg Transit bus that the suspect had boarded while attempting to leave the area. The teen was located and arrested without incident.
Investigators say the suspect and victim are known to each other, and the attack wasn’t random. Neither individual is affiliated with the university.
The youth has been charged with assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon and remains in custody.
