RRC Polytech will take over 19 programs from the Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology starting this fall.
Many of the programs will continue to be delivered at the current MITT South Winnipeg Campus, while training will also carry on through adult learning centres in St. Vital, St. Norbert and Portage la Prairie. The MITT High School will continue operating for the 2026–27 academic year.
Officials say the programs were selected based on strong enrolment and labour market demand.
The transition comes after MITT announced earlier this year it would wind down operations, citing changes to federal international student policies.
RRC Polytech says all current students will be supported in completing their programs as the transition moves forward.
The school will also permanently operate facilities on Henlow Bay and Fultz Boulevard as part of a new South Winnipeg Campus, while maintaining operations at the Pembina Highway site during the transition, including its daycare.
An information night is planned for May 7 at the South Winnipeg Campus on Henlow Bay from 4-7 p.m. to provide details for prospective students.
“What comes next will be supporting students’ academic journey with the sharing of this information, and the assessment of staffing requirements, which will be undertaken with great consideration in a fair and transparently articulated process,” said Fred Meier, president and CEO, RRC Polytech
In a release, both institutions say work will continue in the coming months to prepare programs and support students ahead of the 2026–27 academic year.
