Two teenage boys were threatened with a rifle in Winnipeg’s Maples neighbourhood Thursday afternoon, leading to the arrest of an 18-year-old suspect.
Winnipeg police say officers began investigating the weapons incident just before 1:30 p.m.
Police allege a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old were walking near Jefferson Avenue and Maevista Place when a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox pulled up beside them. A passenger in the vehicle allegedly pointed a sawed-off rifle at the teens before fleeing. Neither youth was injured.
Officers located the suspect vehicle shortly after 2 p.m. in the area of Adsum Drive and Jefferson Avenue and conducted a traffic stop.
A search of the vehicle led to the seizure of several weapons, including a sawed-off rifle with an obliterated serial number, an air pistol revolver, a cap gun, and a machete.
Frederick Basbas Cruz, 18, has been charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, pointing a firearm, and possession of a weapon. He remains in custody.
