Winnipeg’s Pan Am Pool will close to the public early next year as part of a major rehabilitation project.
The city posted a request for proposal earlier this week for a “main tank renewal,” outlining to potential contractors the scope of the work required.
According to the city, work includes the rehabilitation of the main tank, diving platforms, and deck area at Pan Am Pool. The facility’s main pool area will be closed to the public for the duration of construction, though the east training tank, locker rooms, and dryland training area will remain open to select user groups.
Mechanical work involves replacing main drains, pool inlet fittings, diving bubbler ports, water spray nozzles, and vacuum port fittings, including associated piping through the tank walls and floors.
Electrical work and hazardous materials abatement are also part of the project.
The city has budgeted $4.7 million for the repairs, but says no construction timeline is specified until it’s tendered.
Work is scheduled to start in January 2027.
Pan Am Pool previously underwent $3.4 million in renovations in 2019.
