Manitoba Métis Federation president David Chartrand will seek a ninth term as head of the national government of the Red River Métis.
Chartrand announced his intention for reelection on Friday, saying in a statement that his “leadership speaks for itself.”
Chartrand was first elected to the MMF in 1997 and is the longest-serving president in the organization’s history. He went on to win subsequent reelections, including acclamations in 2018 and 2022.
“Now, the work is about securing the future of the Red River Métis government, our institutions, our economic footprint, and our rights so that future generations inherit a strong, self-sustaining
nation,” a news release read.
“I will finish what I started for our Nation,” added Chartrand.
The MMF will hold its election for government on June 23, 2026.
