With the May long weekend upon us, most provincial park campgrounds in Manitoba are now open for campers, but those in the north will have to wait a little longer.
Due to lingering snow cover, the following northern campgrounds will not open as originally scheduled:
- Campers Cove and Pioneer Bay in Clearwater Provincial Park are now set to open May 22.
- Wekusko Falls, Bakers Narrows, Grass River (Gyles, Reed Lake and Iskwasum Landing) and Paint Lake provincial parks are delayed until at least May 29.
- North Steeprock Lake Provincial Park in the Porcupine Hills is delayed until at least May 22.
At Duck Mountain Provincial Park, campgrounds are open for the long weekend but water services are unavailable due to overnight temperatures. Pit privies are available, and some sites may still have snow — reservation holders can be moved to an alternate site.
Campers are advised to bring their own drinking water, as many parks have limited water services because of colder spring temperatures.
