Two suspects are facing charges after a gas theft and police chase near Sioux Valley Dakota Nation.

Virden RCMP responded Wednesday morning to a report of theft at a gas station near the intersection of the Trans-Canada Highway and Highway 21. The suspects had pumped $71 worth of fuel into a stolen truck, then attempted to pay with a card that wouldn’t process before leaving without paying and heading west on the Trans-Canada.

Officers located the truck and attempted a traffic stop, but the suspects fled onto a side road. RCMP didn’t pursue the suspects due to public safety concerns, but continued patrolling the area and found the truck abandoned on Road 60 North near Road 153 West.

RCMP used a police dog to track the two suspects to a nearby treed area, where they were taken into custody without incident.

Meaghan Driskell, 27, and Jordan Getty, 30, of Winnipeg, have been charged with multiple offences.

Both were remanded into custody.
