The Manitoba RCMP is rolling out a new voluntary notification system designed to get public safety information to residents faster and more directly.
Starting today, the RCMP will pilot Rave Mobile Safety, a mass notification platform that allows local detachments to send alerts by text message, email, or automated phone call. The three-month pilot will run through six detachments: Thompson, Norway House, Dauphin, Winnipegosis, Oakbank/Beausejour, and Morris/Emerson.
The system will be used to share public safety advisories, missing persons information, requests for public assistance, road condition alerts, and crime prevention messaging, among other urgent notifications.
“Strong communication is an important part of community safety,” said Cpl Terry Sundell, RCMP community engagement services. “This new system will help us share important information quickly and directly with residents so they can stay informed and take appropriate action when needed.”
The platform is voluntary and privacy-conscious, allowing residents to choose their preferred contact method and update or cancel their subscription at any time. Notifications will be available in English and French.
The RCMP notes the system is not a replacement for the provincial Alert Ready system or emergency services. Residents should still call 911 or their local police emergency line in an emergency.
Those interested in signing up are encouraged to follow their local RCMP detachment on social media for registration details.
