The Downtown Winnipeg BIZ is calling on local artists and performers to apply for “Downtown Live,” a new initiative aimed at showcasing local talent and bringing energy to the city’s core.
The program will feature live public auditions on June 27 at the outdoor plaza outside the Burton Cummings Theatre, where performers will take the stage in front of a panel of judges and a public audience. Selected artists will be added to a curated roster available for paid bookings at downtown locations and public spaces throughout the summer and beyond.
Top performers in each category will win prizes, including a coveted spot at the Burt Block Party, running August 13–16. The signature summer festival draws more than 15,000 fans downtown over four days of live music, food, and activities.
Downtown Live is open to emerging and established artists of all ages across a wide range of genres and performance styles, including musicians, dancers, singers, theatrical performers, and storytellers.
“We’re looking for talent of all kinds — polished, emerging, weird, unexpected, community-rooted, street-performance energy — it’s all welcome,” said Kate Fenske, CEO of Downtown Winnipeg BIZ.
True North Sports + Entertainment is supporting the initiative, with the Burt Block Party serving as one of the performance platforms on offer.
The deadline to apply is June 14. More information and registration can be found at downtownwinnipegbiz.com/downtown-live.
