Two people were rescued from the Assiniboine River in west Winnipeg on Monday night.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to an area near Augier Avenue just before 7 p.m. and dispatched the water rescue unit. Firefighters also deployed a drone to help them locate the people in the water.

“Crews found two people in the water who needed help,” the city said in a release. “Firefighters used a throw ball and personal flotation devices to rescue one person. Bystanders in a canoe helped firefighters rescue the other person.”

It’s unclear how the people came to be in the river. They were both medically cleared and didn’t require transportation to the hospital.
