Winnipeg police have issued traffic violations to two drivers caught street racing on Chief Peguis Trail last month after Air 1 tracked both vehicles to their destination.
At approximately 12:54 a.m. on May 16, the police helicopter observed two vehicles travelling at excessive speeds in what appeared to be a race along Chief Peguis Trail. One vehicle was estimated to be travelling in excess of 200 km/h. The incident was captured on video.
Pilots maintained a visual of both vehicles and tracked them to a residence where they were parked. Ground units were directed to the location and both vehicles and their registered owners were identified.
Offence notices for racing and careless driving were issued to the registered owners, with responsibility for the offences to be determined through the courts.
Police note that in 2025, Winnipeg officers issued more than 13,194 speeding-related violations. With the summer driving season underway, police are urging motorists to slow down and make safe driving choices, noting that multiple spring collisions are currently under investigation with speed and aggressive driving considered contributing factors.
