The Manitoba government has announced the opening of two new transitional housing developments in downtown Winnipeg for women and children escaping gender-based violence.
The first development, Standing Eagle, is an 11-unit transitional housing project that was completed in January and is already fully occupied. Tenants pay rent based on income to keep housing affordable and accessible.
The second development, Morning Light, is a 15-unit second-stage project expected to be completed by the end of June, with full occupancy anticipated in July. It includes 10 studio units, three two-bedroom units and two three-bedroom units, with tenancies expected to range from six to 24 months.
The two projects add a combined 26 supported units and were developed through the federal Rapid Housing Initiative. The Manitoba government is contributing approximately $4 million in capital funding, along with ongoing funding for rent supplements and support services.
