A 71-year-old woman has died following a single-vehicle collision on Highway 50 in the RM of Westlake-Gladstone Monday morning.
Portage la Prairie RCMP received a report of the crash at approximately 7:40 a.m. Emergency crews located an SUV in the ditch off the highway with its wheels in the water.
Investigators learned the SUV had left Duck Bay and was headed south toward Portage la Prairie when it struck a bird, causing the 76-year-old male driver to swerve and hit the ditch.
The driver was not injured. A 71-year-old woman who had been in the back seat died at the scene.
RCMP continue to investigate. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor.
