A 20-year-old man is facing charges after a 74-year-old man was assaulted with a weapon at a Winnipeg apartment complex on Saturday.

Officers responded to a suite in the 1400 block of Rothesay Street just after 2:30 a.m. for a report of an assault with a weapon.

The victim was found with multiple upper-body injuries. He was taken to hospital in critical condition, which was later upgraded to stable.

Police determined the victim had been socializing with another man before the two became involved in a verbal argument. The dispute escalated, and the suspect struck the victim in the upper body with a weapon.

Just after 2 p.m., investigators returned to the same Rothesay Street suite and arrested a man.

Tyrone Jack Goulet, 20, has been charged with assault with a weapon and remains in custody.
