A 23-year-old woman has been charged with second-degree murder following a fatal stabbing in downtown Winnipeg.
Winnipeg police responded to the 300 block of Portage Avenue at approximately 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday after receiving a report that a woman had been stabbed. Officers located an adult woman suffering from severe, life-threatening injuries. She was transported to hospital in critical condition but later died. The suspect had fled the area before police arrived.
The victim has been identified as 58-year-old Helen Annie Spence, a member of Grand Rapids First Nation who had been residing in Winnipeg.
Investigators identified a suspect and arrested her early Wednesday morning.
Shante Trinity Paul has been charged with second-degree murder and remains in custody.
