A 29-year-old man has been arrested following a hit-and-run collision that seriously injured a child in West Kildonan.

Winnipeg police received a report shortly after 5:30 p.m. that a 2025 Ram 1500 had struck a child riding a bicycle in the 500 block of North Point Boulevard. Officers learned the child had been taken to hospital in unstable condition, which was later upgraded to stable.

Police say the child was riding a bicycle on a sidewalk in front of a housing complex when they were struck by the front bumper of the pickup truck exiting a parking lot and entering the roadway. The driver fled the scene before police were contacted.

The driver was later arrested without incident at his residence. He faces charges of dangerous operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

He was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
