The City of Winnipeg has released a tender for significant repairs and upgrades to Pan Am Pool, moving forward with a long-planned renewal of the nearly 60-year-old facility.
Construction is expected to run from January 2027 to summer 2028 and will include concrete repairs to the main pool tank, deck and dive towers, replacement of the waterproof membrane in the main tank and retiling.
Originally built for the 1967 Pan American Games, the facility at 25 Poseidon Bay requires updates to remain safe for residents and sport associations, the city said.
The facility will be closed to the general public during construction, though as much access as possible will be provided to Swim Manitoba and Dive Manitoba athletes to minimize disruption to competitive programs.
The $7 million project is being funded through the province’s recreation and library facility investment strategy.
The city says renovations across its public aquatic facilities are being staged to minimize service disruption and restore closed pools as soon as possible. Piscine Dan Vandal Bonivital Pool recently reopened following a lengthy revitalization, while a major expansion of St. James Civic Centre and renewals at Seven Oaks Pool are also underway. Both facilities are expected to resume normal bookings and Leisure Guide activities in early 2027.
