Winnipeg police say two transit employees were assaulted in separate incidents on Tuesday.

The first happened at around 6 a.m., when a transit driver was exiting his bus at Dunkirk Avenue and Kingston Row, and a male passenger allegedly threw a beer can at him. The driver attempted to restrain the man and was bitten, police said.

Officers responded and took the man into custody. Ian Joseph Mann, 51, was charged with assault and remains in custody.

In the second incident, a transit supervisor was conducting fare enforcement outside a stopped bus at Main Street and Pioneer Avenue around 3:40 p.m. when a woman refusing to pay her fare allegedly punched him in the face.

The victim held onto the woman until nearby Winnipeg community safety officers intervened and police arrived to make the arrest.

A 31-year-old woman is facing a charge of assault peace officer. She was released on an appearance notice.
