An 18-year-old man is facing charges after a police pursuit tied to a reported abduction ended in a multi-vehicle crash.

Winnipeg police received a 911 call at around 1:45 p.m. on September 11 reporting a man forcing a woman into a green SUV near River Avenue and Donald Street.

Officers soon located a matching green 2023 Ford Bronco nearby. When they tried to stop it, the driver fled at high speed, striking a parked car before colliding with a police cruiser near Wellington Crescent.

Minutes later, the Bronco ran a stop sign at Broadway and Langside Street, hitting a Mitsubishi Outlander and pushing it into a building, then struck several parked vehicles before becoming inoperable.

Kesif Fontaine was arrested at the scene. All occupants of both vehicles were taken to hospital, and police say one person in the Outlander suffered serious injuries.

Manitoba’s Independent Investigation Unit has been notified.
